If looked on a broader level, Diwali is a festival when we cement loving relationship with love thereby following certain rituals, customs and traditions. It gives us a nice break from our day to day hectic schedule and rejuvenate not just our mind but lets our souls drench in eternal happiness. We indulge in prayer rituals, exchanging gifts and other recreational activities that make us elated from within. Carnival of people dancing in mirth can be seen all over.

Amongst so much of excitement if we take out time to look deeper into the meaning of Diwali, we can illuminate our minds just as we illuminate our houses during the festival of Diwali. All festivals commemorate one or the other goodness of life. While Raksha Bandhan celebrates the pious bond of brother and sister, Christmas is in the honor of th e birth of Lord Jesus Christ to redeem mankind. Similarly, Diwali is a festival that celebrates the triumph of good over evil. Every legendary story related to the festival is an allegory to the same fact that one should be thoughtful while performing one's karma.
The indication is not one dimensional but Ramayana, the holy book, deals with an ideal life on the whole. Lord Rama, the 'Maryada-Purushottam', a perfect husband, a perfect son, perfect brother and so on. Sita, a perfect wife, a perfect mother, a perfect daughter and so on. It is a depiction of almost a 'Perfect' world and whosoever tries to destabilize the harmony, meets an ill-end or realizes his or her mistake. It gives inspiration on every aspect of life. A moral tale, where at last the villain has to meet death and with him ends the vice.
Therefore, Deepavali plays a pivotal role in the lives of Indians. No just it brings along so many reasons to rejoice with happiness but enlightens us so that we are able to lead a serene and happy life. Each and every custom and tradition of Diwali holds meaning to it. On the one hand, lights stand for the illumination of spirits and on the other hand, exchanging gifts encourage love and affection in the society. Let's celebrate Diwali with more happiness and imbibe in our life the goodness of it.
